DVB Common Interface Software Stack available for NEC EMMA2L

NEC Electronics, a leading manufacturer of System-on-Chip (SoC) Solutions, and 27M Technologies have announced immediate availability of a DVB Common Interface (CI) software stack for NEC's EMMArchitecture2L (EMMA2L) digital TV (DTV) device. Using EMMA2L and 27M's CI stack, manufacturers of DTV products can realise low cost multiple slot, CI functionality without the need for expensive external CI chips and accompanying software stacks. Manufacturers can license the software stack from 27M. It is also possible to license complete turnkey DTV hardware and software solutions from 27M, based on NEC EMMA2L or other EMMArchitecture2 family of devices.

Nick Russell Digital AV marketing manager of NEC Electronics Europe said, "Provision for CI functionality on iDTVs has been mandatory even in a free-to-air market. As you would expect, manufacturers have always been loathed to pass this cost to their customers. Now with our solution, manufacturers can accommodate this mandate simply by providing low cost standard logic buffers and a PCMCIA connector. This argument applies equally well to STBs where the CI slots are provided on the basis of added value."
